Don and Bev have now completed the final chapter in their love story.

Bev passed August 26th after a courageous five-year battle with cancer.

Three days later on August 29th, Don joined her after an eight-year journey with Alzheimer’s.

Although their diseases took them at the same time, we know in our hearts they decided to travel together on their next voyage.

They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in May and were a genuine depiction of soul mates, life partners, and best friends.

We will miss them greatly and already feel an absence in our lives and holes in our hearts.

We are however left with wonderful memories, fantastic experiences, remarkable vacations, fun family holidays and respect for two of the best people we ever knew.

Don and Bev are survived by son Dennis (Melodie) Miner, daughter Jody Miner Karnes, granddaughters Tiffany (Doug) Bailey and Jennifer Miner; great-granddaughters Emma and Carly Bailey, Bev’s brother Eugene “Bud” Blackwell, Don’s brother Robert (Blanche) Miner and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by parents Claude and Agnes (Melzer) Miner and sister-in-law Deniece Miner.

Don graduated from John Rogers High School in 1950, served as chairman of the first all-school reunion and was inducted into their Walk of Fame in 1994.

Don served as manager of the Eagles Lodge (F.O.E.)

from 1962 until his retirement 1993.

He was appointed a Justice on the Grand Tribunal and served as a State Trustee.

With Bev, they attended more than 25 national conventions, were members of the Mixed Drill Team and Camper Club, and enjoyed golf excursions.

Don was instrumental in establishing and building the Eagles Ice-A-Rena and with son Dennis, was also very active in the family apiary (bee) business for 15 years.

Beverly Miner
Bev was preceded in death by mother Naomi Miller (Clarence) Knight, father Eugene (Lois) Blackwell, and sister-in-law Sandra Blackwell.

A 1952 graduate of North Central High School, she obtained her Masters in Education from Eastern Washington University.

Bev was active in the Eagles Lodge (F.O.E.)

where she served as Auxiliary President.

Bev’s first passion was children.

She taught first grade for 32 years at Linwood Elementary School.

Whether it was her students or her family, she was always inspiring, encouraging and supporting them to believe in themselves and to follow their dreams.

Bev loved to travel and vacation with family and enjoyed trips to Disneyland, Hawaii, Florida, New York and Lake Michigan.

Together, they enjoyed life to the fullest, camping at Priest Lake and eventually purchasing their own piece of paradise near Indian Creek, Hassie Club road tours, entertaining family and friends throughout the year, skating and sporting events, and staying involved in the lives of those near and dear to them.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Hospice of Spokane, the Hospice House, and Clare Bridge Senior Living of Spokane.

Words cannot begin to express the gratitude and appreciation that helped us through this difficult period.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Spokane or the Alzheimer’s Association.

A memorial service for Don and Bev will be held on Wednesday, September 5th at 3:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home located at 508 N Government Way in Spokane.
