Scratch cooking saves money

The letter from Cheri Moore said it all.

Classes on cooking from scratch, buying store brands, and shopping sales would save so much money.

I think everyone who receives food vouchers should be required to do just that. I would volunteer my time to help them plan and cook a healthy meal.

Cooking from scratch does not take much more time than a hamburger helper or any box dinner. And it’s a lot healthier and cheaper.

Yesterday, a young couple bought two packages of name brand sausage. Next to them was the store brand, which I buy. The saving on the store brand was $3.20. She said to her companion that a $500 welfare check would arrive the next day. Lots of free money, I guess.
