Weapons trigger liberty

It’s incredibly interesting that the Marxist left Democratic Party, and only the Democratic Party, is the spearhead of America’s gun control campaign. Democrats in New York, Illinois and the People’s Republic of California are pushing new, ever more repressive gun laws (“Stricter gun laws proposed,” Aug. 20).

Meanwhile, the Republican Party continues to uphold the Constitution, cherish freedom and acknowledge that the Second Amendment is the cornerstone of the Bill of Rights.

In 1775, the flintlock musket was cutting edge technology. That technology is represented, in 2012, by modern defensive rifles that anti-gun activists call, incorrectly, “assault rifles.”

The gun ban lobby’s useful idiots would have us believe that the founding fathers never envisioned anything beyond the single-shot, muzzle-loading musket. The aforementioned useful idiots envision a totalitarian state where the citizens have been disarmed and they have total control.

In 1698, Andrew Fletcher wrote, “Arms are the only true badges of liberty. The possession of arms is the distinction of a free man from a slave.”
