In Brief: Mead man dies after motorcycle crash
A motorcycle crash in Stevens County left a Mead man dead Monday.
Motorcyclist Shawn S. Towry, 24, was riding a Triumph Bonneville westbound on Highway 292 about three miles west of Loon Lake when the crash occurred, according to the Washington State Patrol.
He rear-ended a Ford Focus driven by Corrie A. Sams, 25, of Valley, who was slowing and signaling for a left-hand turn.
Towry died at the scene. Sams was uninjured.
The crash occurred about 11:04 a.m.
Authorities do not believe alcohol was a factor and say inattention likely contributed to the collision.

Plane accident injures two
Two people were hospitalized following a plane crash near Metaline Falls, Wash.
The single-engine Cessna 182 crashed off the runway and overturned Sunday at Sullivan Lake State Airport, according to the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office, which was alerted to the accident at 12:19 p.m. The pilot and passenger were taken to area hospitals with serious but unspecified injuries, the Federal Aviation Administration said Monday.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
According to FAA records, the 1968 Cessna is owned by Jack Gorman, of Hillsboro, Ore.
The airport is located alongside a popular campground at the north end of Sullivan Lake, which is in the Colville National Forest.
