Best bet on the Tube
The Cowboys and Giants in tonight’s season opener at 5:30 on NBC will be the highest-rated game of the regular season. That’s nationally as well as in Dallas-Fort Worth and New York. It should be all downhill from there. That’s not exactly going out on a limb. The annual season kickoff game, the brainchild of John Madden, has been a ratings monster. The last two (Vikings-Saints in 2010, Saints-Packers in 2011) are second and third on NBC’s all-time regular-season rankings. Meanwhile, No. 1 is the Cowboys-Giants regular-season finale on New Year’s night 2012.
