BENAVIDES, Otila

Otila “Tila” Benavides was born on May 31, 1924 in McAllen, Texas and passed away August 31, 2012 in Spokane, Washington.

Tila is survived her husband of sixty-nine years, Serafin (Benny) Benavides and six children; Betty Young, Diane (Jerry) Lambert, David (Eva) Benavides, Delia (Steve) Fazzari, Debye (Larry) Thoms-Gasser and Benny (Suzy) Benavides, Jr. She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and her beloved little Pekinese Daisy.

They were recently featured on KREM 2 News when they celebrated their sixty-ninth wedding anniversary.

Her family was the love of her life.

She was a meticulous housewife, who got so much pleasure cooking for her family.
They began their life in Texas after Benny returned from the service.

They moved to Connell, Washington in 1961 where they both worked hard to support their children.

Tila worked at Chef-Reddy Foods in Othello and Lamb-Weston in Connell where she retired in 1979 from the personnel department.

She was so good and helpful with not only the Hispanic population but anyone that needed her help.

They moved to Spokane 1995 where Tila spent her retirement years spending time her many grandchildren, sewing, quilting and crafting.

She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Her favorite saying was “Sleep with Angels”
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 6, from 12:00 noon to 5:00 with a Rosary Vigil to follow at 7:00 pm., both at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 7th, at 11:00 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 505 W. St. Thomas More Way.

A private family Interment will be held at Washington State Veterans Cemetery.
