Obituary: Messer, Guy Gilbert

Guy Gilbert

Guy was born in Lockridge Iowa on September 23, 1924, to Mary and William Messer.

He grew up there with sister Carrie Holloway, and brothers Kenny, Elgie, Archie, Walter and Harold Messer.

After high school Guy moved to the Northwest in 1943.

He met and married Ruby Mae York in 1946 and they were married for 54 happy years before Ruby’s passing.

Together they had three children, Gary (Marie) Messer, Ralena (Richard) Crozer and Gregory (Brenda) Messer, four grandchildren, Scott (Jessica) Messer, Nathan (April) Messer, Kevin and Rachel Messer and three great-grandchildren, Kelcie (JR) Adams, Lexie and Caleb Messer.

He is survived by siblings, Carrie, Kenny, and Elgie and his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Guy worked for Spokane County as a heavy machine operator for 30 years, driving a road grader most of that time, and retired in 1978.

He helped to build many of the roads in the area.

He was a talented musician, and loved to play guitar, in the style of bluegrass and country.

He was known for playing in local bands and for friends.

Guy also loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed gardening.

Woodworking was another favorite pastime.

Dad was always there for family and friends, to lend a hand if needed.

His good nature and humor provided him with many friends.

The family would like to express appreciation to North Central Care Center, and everyone that cared for Dad.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to charity of your choice.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 8th from 9 - 5PM and Monday, September 10th from 9 - 5PM at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday September 11, at 11:00AM at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME 4305 N DIVISION in SPOKANE .
