UCLA upsets No. 16 Cornhuskers

Brett Hundley passed for 305 yards and four touchdowns in an outstanding Rose Bowl debut, Datone Jones sacked Taylor Martinez for a tiebreaking safety with 8:44 to play, and UCLA (2-0) surprised No. 17 Nebraska 36-30 Saturday night in Pasadena, Calif.

Johnathan Franklin rushed for 217 yards and caught an 8-yard TD pass with 2:13 to play for the Bruins with an impressive offensive performance against the Cornhuskers (1-1).

Joseph Fauria caught two TD passes and Steven Manfro grabbed another from Hundley, the redshirt freshman who went 21 for 31 and led the Bruins to 653 total yards.

Martinez passed for 179 yards and made a 92-yard TD run in his return to his native Southern California.

Oregon State 10, (13) Wisconsin 7: Sean Mannion threw for 276 yards and a touchdown, the Beavers’ defense smothered the Badgers’ Montee Ball and Oregon State upset Wisconsin (1-1) in Corvallis, Ore.

Mannion connected with Brandin Cooks on a 20-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the second half to give the Beavers a 10-0 lead then turned it over to the Oregon State (1-0) defense that forced two turnovers and held Ball to 61 yards rushing.

Arizona 59, (18) Oklahoma State 38: Ka’Deem Carey ran for 126 yards and three touchdowns, Matt Scott tossed two touchdowns – one to Carey – and the Wildcats (2-0) upset the Cowboys (1-1) in Tucson, Ariz.

After letting Oklahoma State score the game’s first 14 points, Arizona reeled off 30 unanswered points to take control.

(2) USC 42, Syracuse 29: Matt Barkley threw a career-best six touchdown passes, and Robert Woods was spectacular with 200 all-purpose yards and two scores, to help the Trojans (2-0) shake free of the Orange (0-2) in East Rutherford, N.J.

(4) Oregon 42, Fresno State 25: Kenjon Barner ran for 201 yards and three TDs to lead the Ducks to a victory over the Bulldogs (1-1) in Eugene, Ore.

De’Anthony Thomas ran for 102 yards and two additional scores for the Ducks (2-0).

(25) Stanford 50, Duke 13: Drew Terrell returned a punt 75 yards for a score and caught a 19-yard touchdown pass, Ed Reynolds took one of his two interceptions for another touchdown and the Cardinal (2-0) rebounded from a disappointing debut to roll past the visiting Blue Devils (1-1).

Arizona St. 45, Illinois 14: Taylor Kelly completed 18 of 24 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown, and the Sun Devils rolled past the Fighting Illini (1-1) to improve to 2-0 under new coach Todd Graham in Tempe, Ariz.

Kelly’s backup, Michael Eubank, was 5 of 5 passing for 69 yards and two touchdowns and ran 7 yards for a score.

Sacramento State 30, Colorado 28: Edgar Castaneda’s 30-yard field goal as time expired gave the Hornets a stunning win over the Buffaloes (0-2) in Boulder, Colo.

The Hornets (1-1) got the ball at their own 15 with 2:26 left and marched downfield for the winner by Castaneda.

California 50, Southern Utah 31: Cornerback Marc Anthony scored on a 61-yard interception return in the fourth quarter and the Golden Bears (1-1) shook off another sluggish start at home to beat the Thunderbirds (0-2) in Berkeley, Calif.
