Black sparks Eagles’ victory

Cassie Black scored a pair of goals and Siara Byers also connected to lead the Eastern Washington Eagles (1-4-1) to a 3-1 victory over the Boise State Broncos (3-5) in the Viking Classic in Hillsboro, Ore., on Sunday.

The win was the first of the season for Eastern and first in 11 matches all-time against the Broncos.

Eastern keeper Jamie Walker made six saves, with the only goal against her coming off a rebound on a free kick.

• Freshman Kourtney Guetlein scored in the 80th minute to propel the Washington State Cougars (4-1) to a 3-2 nonconference victory over the Wyoming Cowgirls (6-2) in Laramie, Wyo.

Brandi Vega notched her third goal of the season and Micaela Castain tallied her sixth to cap the WSU scoring.

• Chelsea Leiva tallied three goals and an assist to power the Florida International Golden Panthers (3-2-1) to a 6-0 victory over the Idaho Vandals (2-6) in nonconference play in Miami.

• Stephanie Verdoia scored 6:07 into overtime to lift the visiting Seattle Redhawks (4-2) to a 1-0 nonconference victory over the Gonzaga Bulldogs (5-3).

Volleyball
