Obituary: Housely, Marietta Patricia

Age 87

HOUSLEY,
Marietta
Patricia
(Mattheisen)

Marietta Patricia
(Mattheisen) Housley was born in Helena, MT, on July 18, 1925.

In 1932, her father, Ed Mattheisen, was killed while working as a roadmaster for the Milwaukee Railroad.

Her mother, Mamie, packed up all their belongings and moved to Spokane, WA.

They started a new life, and soon her mother was managing apartment buildings.

After much hard work, their new life in Spokane paid off, and soon, Marietta, was attending the finest of schools.

She graduated from Marycliff High School and enrolled in the Sacred Heart School of Nursing where she attended just three months shy of getting her decree as an RN.

She met the love of her life, Elbert Housley, who was stationed at Felts Field during WWII.

They were married before he went overseas to New Guinea to do his part for his country.

Soon after his return from the war, they were blessed with a little girl.

They purchased their first home on North Post Street.

Marietta was a devoted homemaker.

In 1959, she accepted Jesus Christ as Her Lord and Savior and joined the Central Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She was a Bible teacher, church clerk, and in-charge of elderly visitation.

Marietta was a great Bible scholar, studied the NT Greek language for many years.

She loved to draw, read history books on Egypt and the ancient Pharaohs, and loved to catch a bass (which she pursued every chance she could at their lake home).

Her favorite sport in life was swimming.

She was a lifeguard at Comstock Pool in the ‘40s.

She swam many times across lower Twin Lake in Idaho.

In the ‘60s, Marietta work as a surgical tech at both Sacred Heart Hospital and Deaconess Hospital.

Marietta’s greatest quality was her unconditional love; she was always ready to help.
Marietta passed away September 5, 2012.

We would like to thank the staff at Royal Park Care Center who took such personal and excellent care of her.

Marietta is survived by her daughter, Pat Jesseph (Dick); grandson, John Jesseph (Jeannie); granddaughters, Patti Rubedew, Connie Arnold (Aaron); great-grandchildren, Jessica Andersen, Wylie O’Donell, Jaymes Jesseph, Lewis O’Donell, Ira O’Donell; great-great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Andersen; her best friend, Dee Amis; and her dog, Lucin.
