Obituary: Smith-Maier, A. Glee

Age 79

SMITH-MAIER,
A. Glee
(Age 79)

On Thursday, September 6, 2012, our loving mother received her reward when she joyously entered heaven where she will spend eternity with Jesus.

She was excited to join loved ones that had gone before her.

Glee was born on September 2, 1933 in Eugene, Oregon, the only daughter to Robert and Elizabeth Barnett.

She was raised in Eugene and graduated from Eugene High School in 1951.

She went on to attend college in Nampa, Idaho at Northwest Nazarene College, where she met the love of her life, Howie, and they were married on September 18, 1954.

Howard joined the Army and the two lived in Sacramento, California and Anchorage, Alaska, prior to settling down in Spokane, Washington, where they built their own dream home with the help of Howard’s Dad.

In 1962, Howard and Glee began their family by joyfully welcoming Jeff into their world, followed by Jodi in 1964, Jerron in 1965 and Jay in 1967.

Glee’s four children were her pride and joy, and the family fondly remembers vacations to Canada, Disneyland, Hawaii and numerous trips to the Oregon Coast, which was Glee’s favorite place to go.

In 1977, Glee lost her husband who died in a tragic plane crash.

Glee was an amazing mother and woman of faith and God was faithful to guide her through this challenging time.

As Glee’s children grew and began to leave the nest, she went to work full time as Secretary to the District Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene.

During this time, Glee was honored to receive the Northwest District Eagle Award.

Glee was an incredible piano player and served as pianist for the Millwood Nazarene Church and then at Pasadena Park Nazarene for many years.

She loved her church and gospel music.

In 2001 Glee was delighted when Ray (Lefty) Maier, a lifetime family friend, asked her to take his hand.

They were married on November 16, 2001 and spent eleven years enjoying one another’s love and companionship.

Glee is survived by her husband, Ray Maier; her children, Jeff Smith (Esther), Jodi Munson (Kevin), Jay Smith (Kim), and Jerron Smith; and her beloved grandchildren, Bethany, Zachary, Joshua, Emma, Allison and Luke.

Glee is also survived by her special cousin Faye Larson, her amazing extended family, and many wonderful friends that she cherished.

She was a wonderful loving Wife, Mother, Grandma, Cuzzy, Aunt and Friend.

Our loss is definitely heaven’s gain.

The family would like to extend a deeply heartfelt thanks to the incredible nursing staff at the Valley Hospital and Medical Center Intensive Care Unit (and especially Carolyn, Andrea and Vickie).

Your compassion and care was remarkable!

In honor of Glee, memorial contributions may be made to: World Evangelism Fund through the NW Nazarene District Office.

A Memorial Service will take place at noon on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Pasadena Park Church of the Nazarene, 8822 E. Upriver Drive, Spokane Valley, WA.
