Signed The Brooklyn Nets signed free-agent forward Andray Blatche on Wednesday. The 6-foot-11 Blatche averaged 8.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 26 games last season for the Washington Wizards.
• The Washington Capitals signed forward Troy Brouwer to a three-year, $11 million contract extension. The 27-year-old Brouwer had 18 goals and 15 assists last season in 82 regular-season games.
Dismissed Butler coach Brad Stevens says junior guard Chrishawn Hopkins has been kicked off the team for violating team rules. Hopkins, an Indianapolis native, was one of four returning starters from last year’s team. He finished third in scoring with 9.1 points and third in assists (56).
Refused The New York jeweler suing former Duke basketball player Lance Thomas isn’t interested in speaking to the NCAA. Mike Bowers, an attorney for the firm, said an NCAA official contacted him to see whether someone from Rafaello & Co. would agree to be interviewed about the firm’s lawsuit asserting that Thomas purchased nearly $100,000 in jewelry while playing for Duke’s 2010 national championship team. The lawsuit indicates that Thomas put down $30,000 and received $67,800 in credit. Thomas, then a senior, started 39 games at forward for Duke that season, including the Blue Devils’ 61-59 victory over Butler in the NCAA championship game.
