Colville uses defense to topple Timberlake

Zach Shoemaker scored from 2 yards out early in the fourth quarter and Colville’s defense did the rest in the Indians’ 24-20 nonleague football win over Timberlake Friday night in Colville.

The Tigers (1-2) had 8 minutes and 42 seconds left after Shoemaker’s score, but couldn’t penetrate Colville’s defense. The Indians (2-1) got the ball back with two minutes left and ran out the clock.

Timberlake’s Ben Austin caught two first-half touchdown passes in the first half and the Tigers led 12-0 at the half. Colville responded with 16 straight points in the third. Colton Vining scored from 4 yards out and Josh Hamilton caught a 10-yard touchdown pass or the Indians.

Vining finished with 150 yards on 24 carries.

Lakeland 38, Cheney 17: The Hawks (1-2) broke open a close game with 21 fourth-quarter points and cruised past the Blackhawks (1-2) in Rathdrum. Corey Hansel and Chadley Miller ran for scores in the second quarter. After a scoreless third quarter, Brandon Bunch scored from 2 yards out and Bret Webb hauled in a 37-yard touchdown pass from Matt Horne to give Lakeland control. The Hawks’ Colton Butcher capped the scoring with a fumble return for a touchdown.

West Valley 35, Sandpoint 14: The Eagles (2-1) built a 21-0 first-half lead and coasted past the visiting Bulldogs (0-3). Trevor Cooper ran for two scores in the first half to pace West Valley. Tyler Stavnes threw two touchdown passes for the Eagles. A.J. Buratto scored on two short runs for Sandpoint.

Deer Park 27, St. Maries 8: After a sluggish start, the Stags (3-0) came alive with 20 second-half points and beat the host Lumberjacks (1-2). Doug Denniston threw for 177 yards and ran for a score in the third quarter that gave Deer Park the lead for good.

Freeman 34, Bonners Ferry 6: Kian Gentman caught two passes for touchdowns and the Scotties (2-1) pulled away after halftime and beat the host Badgers (0-4). Freeman threw for three scores – two by Wyatt Smith and the other by Marcus Goldbach.

Colton 74, Mullan 28: Jake Straughn threw for 409 yards and six touchdowns and the Wildcats (2-1) raced past the host Tigers (1-2). Colton gained 675 yards of total offense and led 54-12 at halftime. Dillon Frank caught three of Straughn’s six touchdown passes.

Reardan 41, Lake Roosevelt 14: Charlie Eldred scored three rushing touchdowns to give the Indians (2-1) an early 21-0 lead and Reardan coasted past the Raiders at Coulee Dam.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 35, Kittitas 14: Dylan Hartz passed for three scores and ran for another as the Broncos (2-0) built a comfortable first-half lead and eased past the visiting Coyotes. Ryan Whitmore caught two touchdown passes from Hartz, who completed 10 of 17 passes for 12 yards.

Genesee 32, Garfield-Palouse 14: Ben Druffel and Ryan Kneale scored two touchdowns apiece to guide the Bulldogs to a win over the Vikings (0-2) at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow.

Wellpinit 76, Sunnyside Christian 56: A.J. Kieffer ran for 249 yards and scored six total touchdowns to guide the Redskins (3-0) past the visiting Knights. Kieffer scored five rushing TDs and returned an interception 52 yards for a score. All his scores came in the first half. He also threw a 53-yard scoring pass to Brodie Ford in the fourth quarter.

Touchet 60, Odessa-Harrington 42: Elias Martinez ran for three scores to lead the Indians (2-0) past the host Titans.

Liberty 28, Bridgeport 20: Darien Rhoads hauled in a 35-yard pass from Match Burnham in the fourth to break a 20-all tie and give the Lancers (1-2) a win over the host Mustangs. Burnham ran for two scores and threw for two more to held Liberty erase a 14-point halftime deficit.

Davenport 41, Oroville 14: Derik Oliver scored four touchdowns and Wyatt Evers two as the Gorillas (2-0) rolled over the host Hornets.

Northeast A

Chewelah 18, Lakeside 13: Derek Smith caught a touchdown and ran for a score as the Cougars (2-1, 1-0) slipped by the Eagles (0-2, 0-1) in Nine Mile Falls. Smith finished with 186 yards passing, 71 rushing and 65 receiving.

Riverside 28, Kettle Falls 9: Coleton Collins ran for two touchdowns to help the Rams (1-2, 1-0) beat the visiting Bulldogs (0-3, 0-1). Riverside led 22-6 at the half.

North Star

Kootenai 52, Clark Fork 6: Marshall Willms accounted for four touchdowns as the Warriors (2-2, 1-0) dumped the Wampus Cats (2-2, 0-1) in Harrison. Willms threw three touchdown passes and ran for another.

Northeast 1B North

Republic 68, Curlew 16: Alex Rivera and Angelo Rivera scored two touchdowns apiece to lead the Tigers (1-1, 1-1) past the visiting Cougars (0-3, 0-1). Alex Rivera ran for a 32-yard touchdown to open the game and later returned an interception 40 yards for a score.

Cusick 76, Selkirk 24: In a nonleague game between NE 1B schools, Ryan Sample dominated on both sides of the ball to lead the Panthers (3-0 overall) past the visiting Rangers (2-1). Sample threw for 289 yards and four TDs, ran for two scores, and returned an interception 77 yards for another touchdown. Derrick Pluff had just three catches, but gained 146 yards and scored two TDs. He also ran for a score.

Northeast 1B South

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 52, Entiat 20: Jon Heathman scored three touchdowns – two rushing and one receiving – to help the Warriors (2-1, 2-0) race past the visiting Tigers (2-1, 1-1). Drew Isaak threw a touchdown pass and ran for two more for ACH, which led 38-0 after the first quarter.

Southeast 1B

LaCrosse-Washtucna 54, Wilbur-Creston 14: Sawyer Hostetler, Jonathen Holdren and Sam Harder scored two touchdowns apiece as the Tigercats (2-1, 1-0) routed the host Wildcats (0-3, 0-2). LaCrosse-Washtucna scored 22 unanswered points in the second to take a 38-8 halftime lead.

Northport 58, St. John-Endicott 40: Jeremiah Johnson threw four touchdown passes to guide the Mustangs (2-1, 1-1) past the host Eagles (0-2, 0-1). Wade West led St. John-Endicott with four rushing touchdowns.
