Obituary: Ostby, Ida L.

Age 89

OSTBY, Ida L.
(Age 89)

Longtime resident of Chattaroy, Washington, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2012 at Sun Gardens in Deer Park.
Ida was born on September 21, 1922 to Lars and Ingeborg Handegard in Lark, North Dakota.

In 1936 the family moved to a farm, in Chattaroy, which is still in the family.

Ida graduated from Riverside High School in 1940 and then worked as a waitress in Plummer, Idaho.

She married Milton Ostby in 1942 and they lived on a houseboat on Lake Union, moved to Hillyard and finally settled at Deer Creek near Chattaroy in 1950.

Milton preceded her in death in 1981 but she continued to live on the farm until last May.

Ida retired from Riverside School District as a cook’s helper.

She enjoyed fishing and trips to Alaska.

She loved to go for walks around the farm and watch the deer and the turkeys.

She was an independent woman but had a special place in her heart for her son and daughter, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

She grew up in a household of loving pranksters and continued to have a sense of humor until the end.
Ida was preceded in death by her husband Milton, son Gerald, granddaughter Anne Marie, parents Lars and Ingeborg, brothers, Leif, Lars, Willie, John and Idar, and sister Gladys Sanger Gossett.
She is survived by her son, Gary Ostby (Joanne), daughter Sonja Rosenthal (Larry), daughter in law Jeanne Wall, grandsons Jeff Ostby (Brenda), Zeb Rosenthal (Heather), Cy Rosenthal, Ken Goff (Lori), and Brian Ostby, great grandchildren, Wes Ostby, Kaitlyn Rosenthal, Krujer Rosenthal, Kendrick and KJ Goff, sisters Mabel Bagnell, Thelma Ostby, and Agnes Young.

Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.

Her family would like to thank Sun Gardens and Horizon Hospice for the care and love that they gave her and a special thank you to Sharon Brisbine, ex daughter-in-law, for spending time with her and giving Mom love and support.
No service will be held at Ida’s request.

Private family interment will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Chattaroy Cemetery Fence Fund at Chattaroy Cemetery Assn.
