J.

Dan Schoedel passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 16 at the age of 84.

Born on April 8, 1928, to Margaret (Blake) and Louis C. Schoedel, he attended Lewis and Clark High School and Washington State College, graduating with a BA in accounting.

Dan was an Eagle Scout.

He joined the Air Force Reserves during the Korean War.

He married Shirley Anne Folkins in 1953.

He partnered with his brother Donald L. Schoedel to establish the accounting firm Schoedel and Schoedel.

He served as Board Chairman of Deaconess Hospital, President of the Washington State Society of CPAs, member of the Board of Governors of the American Institute of CPAs, President of the Spokane Chapter of CPAs, Chairman of the Spokane Library Board, Treasurer of St. John’s Cathedral for 25 years, Treasurer for Crime Check, Treasurer and Director of the Spokane Club, member of the Board of Directors for Empire Health Services.

He was an avid golfer and squash player, played handball before squash, and coached his son, J.D.

‘s Little League team.

He was a lifelong member of Manito Golf and Country Club.

After retirement, Dan and Shirley enjoyed the winter months in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and traveled, playing many of the world’s golf courses.

Dan was a bridge player and enjoyed a good game of gin rummy, especially with his granddaughter, Brittany.

He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 59 years; son J.D., Alexandria, VA, daughters, Christianne Schoedel Segal, Baltimore, MD, and Susan Dillard, Holiday Island, AR; grandchildren, Brittany and Thomas Starr; a niece and nephew, Libby Schoedel Cornelius and Kurt Schoedel.

The Memorial Service will be held at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM with a reception afterward.
