Post Falls basketball standout Failor commits to Army

Dani Failor took a visit last weekend to West Point, N.Y., and fell in love with all things Army.

After a conversation with her mom after arriving home Sunday, the Post Falls High basketball standout gave Army an oral commitment. She chose Army over Sacramento State and Air Force Academy.

“Everything about it was absolutely amazing,” the 6-foot-1 Failor said. “The campus is filled with so much history. It’s absolutely beautiful there. And the team is awesome and the coaching staff is great. I just loved how everything back there is organized and structured.”

The other attractive thing, Failor said, is she’s guaranteed to have a full-time job when she graduates.

“In this economy that’s important,” said Failor, who carries a 3.89-grade point average.

She also may pursue a degree in the medical field.

Failor, who may also play volleyball at Army, will start for the Post Falls basketball team for a third year this winter. She averaged a team-leading 16 points and 12 rebounds last year.

She’s excited about her final season. Post Falls returns four starters and welcomes University transfer Hallie Gennett, an all-Greater Spokane League first-team player last year.

“A state title is a realistic goal,” Failor said.

Commit to EWU

Lake City volleyball standout Kylie Curtis has given an oral commitment to play at Eastern Washington University.

Curtis had no second thoughts even with the adversity EWU has had this season. The 5-foot-9 Curtis will be a setter at EWU.

She’s been a two-year starter at setter and outside hitter at Lake City and started at both positions as a freshman and sophomore at Coeur d’Alene before transferring.

Curtis’ mother, Carly (Killen) Curtis, was a starter at outside and middle hitter at EWU for two years.

“I like it because it’s close to home and my mom played there,” Kylie said. “I like the fact that my family can come watch me play. I also like the campus and the town.”

Curtis said she’s one of two setters in EWU’s next recruiting class.

“I don’t know if I’ll be redshirting or not,” she said. “But I can see myself starting my freshman year.”

Commit to Illinois

Mead’s Kara Marbury has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at the University of Illinois.

Marbury, a forward who carried a 3.5 grade-point average, is a four-year starter at Mead. She was an all-Greater Spokane League first-team pick last year.
