Six reasons for Obama

In response to Arlie Kellogg’s Sept. 6 letter, I can point to six very positive things President Barack Obama has achieved in his first term in office.

First, he put the brakes on an economy spiraling out of control – inherited from eight years of GOP mismanagement – by tightening regulations on big banks and passing a stimulus bill that kept unemployment from going even higher.

Then he rescued our foundering auto industry (Mitt Romney said it should go bankrupt), preserving thousands of jobs and again making it one of our national assets.

Side-stepping a Republican- controlled Congress, he has strengthened border control and allowed children of immigrants born in the U.S. to remain here.

His health care reform act, designed to reduce our fastest-growing costs, is already preventing insurance companies from denying coverage because of pre-existing conditions, and is extending coverage for children under their parents’ policies.

He located and executed Osama bin Laden, and fulfilled his promise to end the war in Iraq. Helping to preserve our planet, he is making cars more fuel-efficient, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and cutting fuel costs.

Under President Obama, we are on the right track.
