ADA complaint filed against North Idaho College

COEUR D’ALENE — A man has filed an Americans with Disabilities Act complaint against North Idaho College because he says the school wrongly required documentation before it would allow him to use his service dog on campus.
The Coeur d’Alene Press reports 58-year-old Anthony Cruz is working with Disability Action Center Northwest to file the complaint with the federal Office for Civil Rights in Seattle. COEUR D’ALENE — A man has filed an Americans with Disabilities Act complaint against North Idaho College because he says the school wrongly required documentation before it would allow him to use his service dog on campus.

The Coeur d’Alene Press reports 58-year-old Anthony Cruz is working with Disability Action Center Northwest to file the complaint with the federal Office for Civil Rights in Seattle. Cruz contends the school wrongly required him to show documentation that he needed the service dog, in violation of federal ADA rules. He says the dog alerts him when his blood pressure is too low.

NIC spokeswoman Stacy Hudson says the school’s disability support services are in accordance with federal law and Cruz was granted the accommodations he requested after he provided documentation required by NIC policy.
