Vacant lot comment out of line

Shame on you Mr. Grafos.

Your comment in the Sept. 20 Valley Voice “Council rejects new rules” on the issue of … “If people don’t like the looks of a vacant lot maybe they should just buy it and clean it up” was the most uninformed, boorish and uncaring comment from a supposed caring council member.

We live adjacent to a large field. Off-premise ownership encourages misuse of property to the extent it has been adopted as a convenient dump site for household/garden/construction/landscaping debris with easy access and minimum restrictions. It is now the home of weekly grass clippings and other large debris brought in by truck.

Repeated requests for assistance have fallen on deaf ears. Letter to mayor/city manager never acknowledged … no action.

Request to Fire Department … no response, no action. Code Compliance Office … do we still have one?

High weeds cover most of the area. Currently, we have 3-foot high weeds, 9 feet from property, landscaping/construction debris 6 to 11 feet from property, household trash 27 feet from property and grass clipping 7 feet from property.

With red flag warnings and fire alert messages in media, there is a current danger to people and property. Would you live next to a dump site … or, would you buy it?
