A Saturday fire in Hillyard is now under investigation by the Spokane Fire Department’s Special Investigation Unit.
Crews responded to the fire around 10:30 Saturday morning. The first crew reported fire in the southwest corner of the two-story wood-frame apartment building at 2804 E. Diamond. The fire spread to the second floor and the attic.
The fire was brought under control in 30 minutes, with 28 firefighters on scene.
The Red Cross assisted the occupants who were displaced.
The building sustained significant fire damage in the kitchen on the main floor and the attic. There was smoke and water damage in the rest of the building.
