Obituary: Chapman, Ruth Sater

CHAPMAN, Ruth Sater
(Age 97)

Much loved mother and grandmother.

Born June 19th, 1915, in Mitchell, South Dakota to Leo and Elsie Boehnen.

In her early years she was a social worker and teacher in a one room school house.

Ruth was a resident of Spokane for over 65 years.

She and her husband, Harold Chapman, owned and operated the Westminster Hotel, Pacific Hotel and Restaurant, Carlyle Hotel & Grocery, Empire Hotel, Bob’s Chili Parlor, Halliday Hotel and a local candy factory.

The last hotel they owned was the Victoria Hotel, which Ruth continued to operate after the death of her husband until she retired.

Her children have fond memories of spending time in these places when they were young.

She then married Robert Sater and they spent their retired years dancing.

She lived a full and beautiful life and enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bridge and traveling.

According to her grandchildren, fond memories of Grandma Ruth include her mashed potatoes, macaroni salad, the “candy drawer”, fabulous fashion, jewelry, Jeopardy answers, and loving spirit.

She will be remembered and always loved by her son Mark Chapman (Bev Oliver), daughter Carol Wiens, granddaughters Heather Wiens (Sauro Dall’Aglio) and Shaunna Wiens and great-grandson Teo Dall’Aglio.
