Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 14, 2012 at Creekside Inn Assisted Living.
Marietta was born to Kenneth and Elizabeth Cloos on April 23, 1932 in Torrington, Wyoming.
In 1948 she moved to Lewiston, Idaho and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1950.
She was voted by her classmates to deliver the graduation commencement speech.
Marietta continued her education at the University of Idaho where she pledged and was initiated into the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.
It was at the U of I that she met Jimmy Lynn on a blind date.
They were married in 1953 in Wallace, Idaho.
The young couple moved to St. Louis where Jim attended dental school at Washington University, and Marietta worked for Dr. Hall, a job she loved.
Next, Marietta was off to Giessen, Germany as the wife of an Army Captain, traveling around Europe and meeting many people who would turn out to be lifelong friends.
Jim and Marietta purchased a dental practice in Wallace, Idaho where they would raise their children and become involved in many civic and social activities.
In 1999 Jim and Marietta retired and moved to Coeur d’ Alene to be closer to their children and grand- children.
Marietta spent her life caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren.
She was an excellent cook whether it be a romantic dinner for two or a holiday celebration for twenty-five.
Her family recipes are treasured by her children and grandchildren.
Marietta could sew, knit, or crochet anything.
She knitted her famous Christmas socks for the entire family with each new addition receiving their signature sock.
Being an avid oil painter and artist, her beautiful paintings filled her home.
Marietta’s crafted toy boxes for her grandchildren have become family heirlooms.
Marietta was a fierce competitor, a trait she would pass on to her children.
Whether it be a game of bridge or a match on the golf course, Marietta was playing to win.
She enjoyed attending her children’s and grand- children’s sporting events, dance and music recitals, graduation ceremonies, and other special events.
Jim and Marietta were always in the front row cheering.
Marietta was a lifelong University of Idaho Vandal football fan, having been in attendance at both the Vandal Humanitarian Bowl victories!
In Wallace, Marietta was a member of the United Church of Christ, and Beta Sigma Phi service sorority.
She was active in the Wallace Elks Lodge #331, traveling to numerous state and national conventions with Jim and her many friends.
She was a determined and classy woman who had an unconditional love for her family no matter how hard they tried to test her love.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jim; her children; son, John and Mary Lynn of Coeur d’ Alene, daughter, Laurie and Jesse Wittrock of Mead, WA, daughter, Amy Lynn of Spokane, son, Ken and Carrie Lynn of Coeur d’ Alene, and daughter, LeAnn and Dave Gillette of Chilliwack, B.C.
; grandsons, Jimmy, Danny, and Aaron Wittrock, and Jakob Lynn; granddaughters, Christina, , Kimberly, Mariah Lynn and Aliah (Jared) Stein, Ondia Prince, and Chanelle Young; many nieces and nephews; sister Jean (Bill) Graham of Kenniwick, sister-in-law, Sharon Morton (Steve) of Richland, and sister-in-law, Shirley (Carl) Hershey of Mesa, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Elizabeth Cloos and brother Bill Cloos.
The Lynn family would like to thank Creekside Inn Assisted Living for the love, care, and compassion they showed Marietta during her stay there.
A celebration of Marietta’s life will be held on Saturday, September 29th at 2:00 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 9485 Maple St., Hayden, ID.
A reception will follow at the church.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Wallace Elks Lodge #331, 419 Cedar St., Wallace, ID 83873.
