Anthony’s the apparent winner of Anthony’s

The company that owns Anthony’s restaurant on the north bank of the Spokane River along Spokane Falls has won the bidding to buy the building it’s in from the city of Spokane. Earlier this year, Mayor David Condon announced a renewed effort to sell land the city no longer needs. Anthony’s building and land, 520 N. Lincoln St., is probably the highest profile of the parcels the city has put up for sale. The city purchased the building with a grant in the late 1990s for the Lincoln Street bridge project, a controversial idea that was long scrapped by city leaders. Mad Anthony’s Restaurants, the Bellevue-based chain that owns Anthony’s at Spokane Falls, bid $3.9 million on the property, said city spokeswoman Marlene Feist in a news release. Only one other bid was submitted on the property. The triple A-frame restaurant building was erected in 1965 to house the Polynesia Restaurant but became the popular Black Angus Steakhouse for 22 years starting in 1966. In 1994, Salty’s at the Falls moved into the building, and then a special events facility operated there after the city purchased the land. Anthony’s has leased the structure since 2004.
