On the morning of September 15, 2012, the Lord called our mother, Aune Berttula Huhta, to her eternal home in heaven.

Aune, a resident of Spokane for 54 years, was born September 23, 1915, in Toivola, Minnesota, one of 10 children to her immigrant parents.

Formerly of Duluth, MN, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Huhta, and her grandson, Steven Janson.

Aune and Charles moved to Spokane in September of 1958.

A homemaker, she joined the workforce as a salesperson at the Crescent Dept.

Store.

After retiring, she volunteered for the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop for 15 years; was a member and volunteer at the Corbin Senior Activities Center; Southside Senior Center, member of the Spokane Chapter 163 Order of the Eastern Star and Golden Chain Auxiliary; member of the Finlandia Foundation, Retired Crescent Employees Assn., and Trinity Baptist and Park Heights Baptist Church.

Aune and Charles traveled to Finland, and to Minnesota to visit family many times.

She enjoyed her family, playing cards, reading, church activities, and her volunteer work.

She is survived by her sister, Jean Christopherson, of Duluth, MN; daughters, Charlene Janson (Marvin), Christine Eriksen, of Spokane, and son, Loren Huhta (Nina); Thompson Falls, MT; grandchildren, Colleen Janson, Spokane, WA; Beth Janson, Folsom, CA; Dr. Lori Chow (David), Anaheim, CA; Paul Janson; Marcia Jayne (Rob), Spokane, WA; great grandchildren, Nathan (Amy) Browning, Lindsey Browning, Mallory and Cameron Jayne, Daniel and Eric Chow, Charlene Schreiner and Stephanie DePedro; and great-great grandchildren, Magnolia, Liam and Kai Browning; Adonis Haskins and Alana & Athena Schreiner.

Aune’s family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care she received at Providence St. Joseph’s Care Center during her last years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to Providence St. Joseph’s Care Center, Mid-City Concerns, or Anna Ogden Hall.

Her patience and unconditional love made her the center of the family and she will be dearly missed.

A family graveside service will be held on Monday, October 1st, at Fairmount Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service for friends and family at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, N. 6528 Monroe St., Spokane.
