Backing the 100 percent
I’m not a member of what liberals call the top 1 percent, but I’m always offended when people say the top 1 percent isn’t paying their fair share, and that we should increase their taxes. The liberals say this would promote fairness, but would it really?
After all, they’re not saying, “I support more government spending and I’m willing to pay for it.” What they’re really saying is, “I want more free stuff and other people should pay for it.” There’s something morally obscene about that, and promotes the idea of social justice. Yet, leaving those issues aside, nobody bothers to ask the question, “How would raising taxes affect the economy? How does raising taxes on anyone create a single job?”
Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers deserves credit for refusing to pander to populist greed. She’s held firm against tax increases that would hurt our economy and kill jobs. She voted for legislation that would extend the current tax rates and stop a record $4 trillion tax hike scheduled to take effect Jan. 1. Some might call it standing up for the 1 percent, but I call it standing up for the 100 percent.
