Obituary: Bixby, Richard Wallace

BIXBY, Richard Wallace
(Age 90)

Born in Spokane May 16, 1922 and after a long loving life and a short battle with cancer, he died at Holy Family Hospital on September 24, 2012.

He attended North Central High School where he met his high school sweetheart Audrey Hansen.

They married August 22, 1942 and just celebrated their 70th anniversary.

He served in the U.S. Navy for over three years.

Afterwards he became an apprentice machinist and later joined Otis Elevator Company, working his way through the ranks to Superintendent and finally Local Manager.

He made many long lasting friends from both high school and the years at Otis.

When his father retired Dick bought the family business, Bixby Machine.

He expanded it into sales and parts and, joined by his son David and wife Audrey; it grew adding to their many friends.

David now owns the still local customer friendly business.

Dick spent many years enjoying Sacheen Lake and later Lake Roosevelt where he tackled building a new home in his 70’s.

There wasn’t much he couldn’t do or fix.

He was a very sweet, wise and loving man who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by wife Audrey, Sisters Dorothy Allen of Spokane, and MargeAnn Read of California; daughter Nancy Johnson Hundrup and husband Jim Hundrup, son David Bixby, wife Diane, sister-in-law Lynda Androsky and husband Rick, six grandchildren and their spouses, and eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.


Services will be Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 11 AM, at Sunset Chapel, Fairmount Memorial Park.

A reception lunch will follow at Mama Mia’s, 420 W. Francis Ave. Memorial contributions can be made to Shriner’s Hospital or Hospice of Spokane.
