Age 74

ALLEN, Roy S.

Passed away September 25, 2012 in Spokane after battling cancer.

He was born March 4, 1938 in San Diego, CA, the son of Charles and Louella Allen.

Roy retired from the Spokane Police Department on June 30, 1986 after 25 years of service and moved to the shores of Lake Roosevelt where he enjoyed fishing and the peace of country life.

Roy competed in dozens of triathlons and completed nine Ironman triathlons including six Ironman Championships in Kona, Hawaii and three in Penticton, B.C., where he also won his age group.


Roy is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Margaret Allen; children Robert Allen, Michelle (Scott Dalrymple) Allen, Kathryn Allen all of Spokane and Theresa (Mike) Culp of Elk, WA; brother Rolland Allen of California and Leonard Allen of Spokane; sisters Betty Burris and Lorine Garcia of California; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Rymer of California and his daughter Jean Marie Allen.

Private Graveside services will take place at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

A public gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 1pm to 3pm at The Maxwell House, 1525 N. Ash, Spokane.
