Obituary: Stedman, John Arthur

STEDMAN , John Arthur
(Age 67)

John was born in Modesto, California on November 2nd, 1944, the second of two sons to Georgia (Loganbauch) and Reuben (Cy) Stedman.

He passed away on September 18,
2012 in Spokane after a very brave 21 month battle with cancer.

He spent his earlier years in the Colfax area but called Spokane and Reardan home for the better part of the last 40 years.

John was a 34 year veteran of the Spokane Fire Department where he later and most recently served as a Lieutenant and then Captain of Station #1 in downtown Spokane.

He was a proud public servant and fire fighter, and always claimed to have “the greatest job in the world.”

A strong man, a role model, and a caring father and grand- father, John is survived by his daughter Jennifer and family Joe, Jerica, Izzy, and Caiden Ugolini, and his son Jeremy and family Brooke and Grace Stedman; as well as his brother Frank Stedman and family.

John was very happy to spend these last months with his most prized of things - his grandchildren.

John was a quiet man whose passion for community service and charity touched and reached countless others.

John enjoyed spending his time with his family, renovating houses, and motorcycling.

You did a great job with your time here Dad, we were lucky to have you, and we will all miss you so much.

None of us would be the same if it weren’t for you.

We couldn’t be prouder of you.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to The Spokane Firefighters Fund care of Assistant Chief Schaeffer, 44 West Riverside, Spokane, WA 99201 or to the Union Gospel Mission General Fund of which he was an active supporter.
