Records fall for Pirates

The Whitworth men’s and women’s track teams combined for nine meet records Saturday at the Peyton Scoring Meet, hosted by the University of Puget Sound at Baker Stadium in Tacoma.

The Pirates men finished in first place out of eight teams, while the women finished third out of nine teams.

For the men, Carter Comito won the shot put and discus with meet-record marks, and Casey Monahan (110 hurdles), Chase Wright (javelin) and Chibron Tomeo (pole vault) also won in record fashion. The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams also set meet records.

For the women, Rebekah Daniels (hammer throw) and Kellyn Roiko (3,000-meter steeplechase) won with meet-record marks.

• Washington State’s Stephan Scott-Ellis won the men’s collegiate triple jump and the Cougars’ 4x100 relay team triumphed Saturday at the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field in Stanford, Calif.
