Education Notebook: LC drill team places at state
The Lewis and Clark High School Drill Team competed at the Washington State Drill Team Competition, March 22 and 23 in Yakima, taking second place in the military division and placing third in the kick division.
Mt. Spokane, Shadle Park, Ferris, and West Valley high school drill teams also participated in the competition. Mt. Spokane was awarded eighth in the pom division, seventh in hip hop division. Shadle Park received fifth place the pom division, and in the individual drill down division, team members Zac Carolus placed fifth and Nicole Mollica was awarded first place.
West Valley received seventh placed in the pom division, third place in the hip hop division, third place in the military division. Ferris was awarded sixth place in the pom division and received 10th place in the hip hop division
The five Spokane area teams were among 36 drill teams to compete.
SPRINT orientation scheduled for Tuesday
Spokane Public Schools will have an orientation meeting on Tuesday for families interested in the SPRINT program. The meeting will be in the Shaw Middle School library, 4106 N. Cook St., at 6 p.m.
The alternative learning program, housed at Shaw, relies on strong family involvement where parents and guardians work with teachers to enhance the learning environment and the demanding, project-based curriculum. Students belong to and work in a community, and are expected to have independent learning skills.

Running Start presentations planned
Spokane Falls Community College, Spokane Community College and the Institute for Extended Learning education centers will hold Running Start information nights during the month of April.
The sessions will provide high school juniors and seniors and parents information needed to learn how to earn college credits while completing high school academic requirements. Students and parents can meet Running Start students to hear about their experiences. Running Start counselors and coordinators also will be available to answer questions and explain how students can enroll in the program. Running Start college credits transfer to most four-year state colleges.

• April 11 at 7 p.m. at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St., in the Lair-Student Center Sasquatch Room, Building 6.
• April 15 at 6 p.m. at the CCS Colville Center Rendezvous Theater, 985 S. Elm St.; the Inchelium Center, 6394 Inchelium-Kettle Falls Road; the Newport Center, 1204 W.
