Kydd new volleyball coach at NIC

Volleyball: The North Idaho College athletics department has announced that former Eastern Washington University head volleyball coach Miles Kydd has been named as the new NIC head coach.

Kydd replaces Kandice Gregorak, who resigned from the head coaching position in January for family reasons after leading the Cardinals to back-to-back NJCAA national tournament appearances. Gregorak was recently hired as an assistant volleyball coach at the University of Montana, joining her husband on the Griz athletic staff. Ty Gregorak is the defensive coordinator for the UM football team.

Kydd was a member of the EWU volleyball coaching staff for nine years, including the last four as head coach. He spent four years as an assistant under Wade Benson until becoming head coach in January 2008. Kydd resigned from EWU this past season for personal reasons.

Pac-12 officials coordinator quits

Basketball: Ed Rush has resigned as the Pac-12 Conference’s coordinator of men’s basketball officials following comments that he targeted Arizona coach Sean Miller during internal meetings before the league tournament.

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott told the AP a day earlier that Rush made an “inappropriate joke” before the Pac-12 tournament semifinals offering a group of officials $5,000 for a trip to Cancun if they called a technical foul on Miller.

Officials whistled Miller for his first technical foul of the season during the semifinals of the Pac-12 tournament against UCLA for arguing a late double-dribble call against Wildcats guard Mark Lyons. Arizona lost the game 66-64.

Miller was later hit with a $25,000 fine from the Pac-12 for what the conference said was confronting an official on the floor and acting inappropriately toward a staff member in the hallway.
