Obituary: Sjostrom, Robert John “Uncle Bob”
Age 94
Bob was born March 12th, 1919 to John and Christina Sjostrom in Wilson Creek, Washington.
The family moved to Dalkena, WA where he grew up on the family farm.
Bob had four brothers, Arthur, Alvin, Harry, and Marvin and one sister, Mable.
Bob enlisted in the Army on January 14th, 1942 and served in the 90th Infantry Division during WWII in Germany.
He received an Honorable Discharge on February 26th, 1946.
After the war Bob worked at the Davenport Hotel and as a logger in north Idaho where an accident almost claimed his life.
He was told he would never walk again, but true to his stubborn attitude he proved everyone wrong.
He married Thelma Pinsoneault in November, 1951.
They settled into the Shadle Park area where they lived until their deaths.
Bob worked at Fruehauf trailers for over 30 years.
In his off time he loved to fish, often complaining about “the stupid wind that keeps blowing.”
He and Thelma loved to pick huckleberry’s on Mt.
Baldy and they loved to play pinochle with family and friends.
Bob was a talented woodworker and loved to fix anything.
Thelma and Bob’s “kids” were their nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
They attended many of their school and birthday celebrations.
Uncle Bob is preceded in death by his wife Thelma, his parents and his brothers and sister.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 13th at 3:00pm at the SPOKANE CREMATION & FUNERAL SERVICE located at 2832 N. RUBY, and will be followed by a reception.
The family would like to thank Sacred Heart hospital and St. Joseph Care Center for there compassion and love they showed Bob in his final hours.
