TV Notes: ‘Mad Men’ kicks off Season 6 in Hawaii

“MAD MEN” – You would think that a holiday vacation to Hawaii would do a lot to loosen up Don Draper (Jon Hamm). But as Season 6 of this celebrated drama opens on the shores of Waikiki, our main man finds himself in a melancholy, contemplative mood, pondering his own mortality – not to mention a really bad sunburn. Quick, someone get the guy some aloe lotion and an extra-strength mai tai. 9 p.m. Sunday, AMC.

ToDAY: Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan make for a solid hosting duo at “The 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.” Just don’t call it a “bromance,” because that ticks off Blake. 8 p.m., CBS.

toDAY: Steve Harvey hosts “Celebration of Gospel 2013.” It’s a two-hour special packed with performances by Tye Tribbett, Anthony Brown and Group Therapy, Tamela Mann, Tamar Braxton and many more. 8 p.m., BET.

MONDAY: Never mind that your bracket is totally busted. The NCAA Basketball Tournament is down to the two survivors and it’s time to see who will experience that “One Shining Moment.” 6 p.m., CBS.

MONDAY: “50 Children: The Rescue Mission of Mr. and Mrs. Kraus” is a documentary that tells the amazing story of a valiant couple who traveled to Nazi Germany in 1939 to save 50 Jewish children. 9 p.m., HBO.

TUESDAY: Ready or not, here comes “Ready for Love.” It’s a new dating show that’s executive- produced by Eva Longoria and has three bachelors searching for their perfect mate with the help of a relationship expert. 9:01 p.m., NBC.

WEDNESDAY: “Australia’s First 4 Billion Years: Awakening” is the latest offering from “Nova.” It’s a four-part series that takes viewers on an exhilarating journey from the Earth’s origins to the emergence of the world we know today. 8 p.m., KSPS, KCDT.

WEDNESDAY: More country folk with long beards show up in “Deep South Paranormal,” a new series that follows a fun-loving bayou-based team that investigates everything from swamp apparitions and haunted plantation houses to Southern voodoo legends. 10 p.m., Syfy.

THURSDAY: “The Moment” is an uplifting new reality series that gives people a second chance to experience their dream jobs. First up: A wannabe photographer interviews for a post at Sports Illustrated. 10 p.m., USA.

FRIDAY: The new, eight-part drama series “Da Vinci’s Demons” springs from the mind of writer David S. Goyer (“Dark Knight Trilogy”). It’s a rollicking “historical fantasy” that chronicles the life of Leonardo da Vinci (Tom Riley) during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence. 10 p.m., Starz.

SATURDAY: Louis C.K., widely considered to be the funniest comedian going, takes the stage for his latest stand-up special, “Louis CK: Oh My God.” The show has him cracking wise on, among other subjects, the food chain, divorce, strange anecdotes, murder and mortality. 10 p.m., HBO.
