Obituary: Hauer, Miriam

HAUER, Miriam (1915 - 2013) Miriam Elaine (Rowell) Hauer was summoned to her reward after a peaceful death on February 3rd at the age of 97.

She was born in Dubuque, Iowa on August 20, 1915.

She was married to Urban Hauer in 1935 and moved to the environs of Kettle Falls, Washington where they began gold mining, farming and logging with Urban’s parents.

Miriam published details of these adventures in the 12/2001 and 2/2002 issues of Nostalgia magazine.

Miriam moved with her family in 1944 to Spokane, where she raised her four children.

Miriam loved to play the piano, knit warm sweaters for her family, and spent many hours compiling genealogies for all branches of her family.

She was active in the St. Aloysius Guild.

The ladies always waited for her pumpkin pie when the meetings were at her home.

She was kind and generous throughout her life.

More than anything, she loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Urban, her sons Joseph Hauer and baby, James Hauer, grandsons, James Gage and Theodore Hauer.

She is survived by her children, John Hauer, Fay Hauer, and Veronica Gage, as well as many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and her sisters Joy Lippstock and Jacky Ware.

The family is very grateful to Heritage Haven Assisted Living and Horizon Hospice for their very excellent care of Miriam during her last days.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Peter’s Church with Mass in Spokane on April 12th at 10:00 a.m.
