Music venue being planned

Spokane residents Caleb and Karli Ingersoll are planning to open The Bartlett, an all-ages music venue, along with a separate beer and wine bar, in the Richmond Building, 228 W. Sprague Ave., in downtown Spokane.

The Ingersolls announced last week they hope to open the new club within six months.

The Richmond is one building east of Nyne Bar and Bistro. Built in 1907 as the Richmond Hotel, the building is part of what area building historians call the Mearow Block.

That name comes from Spokane businessman Joseph Mearow, who operated the Bell Furniture Co. on the first floors of the connected Richmond and Bickett buildings, which are on Riverside Avenue directly behind the Richmond.

Later the buildings were used as the downtown Sylvan Furniture store.

Jimmy John’s in Liberty Lake

A Spokane company will open a Jimmy John’s sandwich franchise at 1429 N. Liberty Lake Road, in Liberty Lake.

The franchisee, McMasters Restaurants, is making improvements in the 2,000-square-foot retail space and expects to open the business in May. The company has no other Jimmy John’s franchises.

McMasters has signed a 10-year lease with the property owners, Michael and Marsha Rodgers.

Mattress Firm adds stores

Retailer Mattress Firm Inc. has opened a new store at 4707 E. Sprague Ave., near Wal-Mart, in Spokane Valley.

The 5,000-square-foot store is one of three the company is opening in the Spokane area.

Later this month the company will open stores at 5027 N. Division St. and at 9701 N. Newport Hwy.
