Baby death ruled a homicide

The death of an 18-month-old boy last week has been ruled a homicide. According to a release from the Spokane County Medical Examiner, Rylee J. Castner died of blunt force trauma to the head on March 31. The child suffered a partial skull fracture, according to the release. According to court documents, Castner was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center on March 30 and was lethargic and bleeding from the mouth. A search warrant in the case was executed at a home at 2104 W. Mansfield Court. Major crimes detectives are investigating, but there have been no arrests, according to a Spokane Police Department spokeswoman. The court documents said an officer at the hospital observed bruising under both of the child’s cheeks and a large bruise on his foot. He also noticed an indentation on the left side of the baby’s head. “The baby was immediately taken to surgery,” the documents said.
