Best of Broadway has something for everyone

West Coast Entertainment’s Best of Broadway series for 2013-14 should have a little something for everyone. The season, announced Monday, will feature:
  • two certified classics, “Anything Goes” (Oct. 10-13) and “Hello, Dolly!” (Jan. 30-Feb. 14, 2014), the latter featuring “All in the Family” star Sally Struthers;
  • a new jukebox musical, “Million Dollar Quartet” (Dec. 12-15), featuring the music of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins;
  • a recent hit musical comedy, “Sister Act” (March 27-30, 2014);
  • and a genuine smash, “Wicked” (May 7-25, 2014), coming back to Spokane after the monster success of its 2011 run at the INB Performing Arts Center.

For theater fans, however, the biggest news may be what’s in store for fall of the 2014-15 season. That’s when “Book of Mormon,” the Tony Award-winning hit musical from “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, is set to come to town. That’s good news to fans who might have missed the national tour’s recent sold-out run in Seattle. “Book of Mormon” will be part of the 2014-15 season. Getting back to 2013-14, the “Specials Plus” season will include a one-day only staging of “American Idiot” (Nov. 10), the Tony and Grammy-winning adaptation of the acclaimed album by the punk rock band Green Day. The other featured specials include “Capitol Steps” (Oct. 6), “Mannheim Steamroller Christmas” (Nov. 23), “The Ten Tenors” (Feb. 15, 2014) and “Bring it On” (March 4, 2014). Season tickets are on sale now; visit www.bestofbroadwayspokane.com for information. Tickets to individual shows will go on sale later this summer.
