Obituary: Smith, Marie Magalene (Garrett)

Age 88

SMITH, Marie Magalene (Garrett) Passed away on April 7, 2013, in her home at Chattaroy, WA.

Marie was born on January 6, 1925, at Woodrow, Arkansas, to Clarence and Lora Garrett; she was the oldest of 6 children.

She was married to Daniel M. Smith on April 18, 1942.

They moved from Arkansas where they were raised, to Spokane, WA in 1946 and then to Chattaroy, WA in 1956 where they raised their three children, teaching them farm life.

Marie and Dan traveled for 18 years after retirement seeing much of the U.S. and spending the winters in Arizona and California.

They spent their last years in Chattaroy with family and friends.

Maria loved helping and encouraging others whenever she could and was always there when she was needed.

Marie had many talents and hobbies among which were writing poetry, sewing, cooking, gardening, canning, and decorating wedding cakes and making wedding gowns for family and friends.

She enjoyed teaching others the skills she had learned.

She loved organizing family gatherings and having her family and friends around her but her greatest love was reading the Bible and attending Church to hear the true word of God preached.

She attended Mountain View Baptist Church in Colbert, WA, where her grandson, Alan Lehman is the pastor.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel M. Smith; her parents, Clarence and Lora Garrett; brothers, Ewil Garrett and Ewing (Pat) Garrett; her sister, Mildred Armstrong; and great granddaughter, Alana Knudsvig.

She is survived by her two sons; Danny Smith and his wife Rosemary of Aloha, OR, Dennis Smith and wife Karen of Spokane; daughter, Donna Lehman and her husband Frank of Chattaroy, WA; sisters, Delma Wally and her husband Weldon, and Georgie DuPriest and her husband Jackie both of Arkansas; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 10 from 9:00AM - 8:00PM at RIPLINGER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY 4305 N DIVISION SPOKANE, WA 99207.

The funeral service will begin at 1:00PM on Thursday, April 11 at Riplinger Funeral Home with a graveside service at the Chattaroy Cemetery beginning at 4:30PM.
