He was born and raised in Rogersville, Alabama (son of Auburne and Oscar John Wear) leaving home and Rogersville High School at the age of 17 to join the Army Air Corp as a gunner.
For his 22 year military history he was stationed at Fort Wright Army Base and Fairchild AFB Spokane.
He flew 35 missions in World War II’s European Campaign and 22 missions during the Korean Conflict earning both the Distinquished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart and numerous other medals and awards.
Followed by 25 years as a service agent with Farmers Insurance.
Gil was a life time member of D.A.V.
#45 as well as a long time member of the Spokane Moose Club and eagles Lodge #1.
His interests included gold prospecting and lapidary.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Shirley, and his daughter, Anita Marie.
He is survived by his brother, Kenneth W. Wear, of Mobile, Alabama, seven children, 19 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Military grave side service for Gilbert D. Wear, 87, of Spokane, will be help at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 North Wall, on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 2 P.M.
The family will receive friends at his home of 56 years, 3322 West Dalke, after the services.
At his request any memorial contributions can be made to any Veterans/Military Association.
