Obituary: Woodell, Nelson Edward “Woody”
They moved to Cottage City, MD so that their sons could attend grade school.
Woody graduated from Mount Rainier High School.
Woody enlisted in the Army Air Corps a year after graduation.
He trained at the Radio Communication School in Reno, NV.
He was sent to the CBI in 1943 and was stationed at an air base in Burma.
As a radio operator on a C47 transport plane, the crew of three transported 100 octane gasoline in 50 gallon barrels to the Flying Tigers in Kunming, China.
Woody was discharged in December 1945.
After a brief period of time, he went to work in the Pentagon for the Air Force.
This is where he met the future Mrs. Woody Woodell.
Woody and Lois were married December 7, 1946.
They were married in the Cottage City Presbyterian Church by Rev.
Shreve, the same minister who married Woody’s parents.
Woody and Lois honeymooned at the Benjamin Franklin Hotel in Philadelphia, PA.
They moved from Maryland to Opportunity, WA where Woody worked for and retired from the Washington Water Power Company in Spokane, WA.
The Woodells were part-time Lake Havasu City residents starting in September 1985, traveling to their summer home in Washington and returning to Lake Havasu City in the fall.
They became full time residents in April 2011.
Woody was a member of the Manito Masonic Lodge, Spokane Scottish Rite, Spokane Shrine and Victory Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
He enjoyed working with the girls of Spokane Valley Rainbow Assembly #53, Order of Rainbow for Girls.
Woody enjoyed bowling and is a member of the Lake Havasu City Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
He bowled in three leagues.
His is a member of the LHC Shrine Club, Republican Men’s Club and Republican Women’s Club.
Woody is survived by Lois, his wife of 66 years.
Woody was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harry Ernest and William Eugene and son Nelson Edward Woodell Jr. A Visitation was held at Lietz-Fraze Chapel Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 3:00 PM and Funeral Services will be held by Rev.
Bybee on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens, and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at Community Presbyterian Church on April 17, 2013 at 11:00 AM.
Military Honors will be rendered by VFW Post 9401 and American Legion Post 81.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to VFW Post 9401 and American Legion Post 81 in memory of Woody.
