Robinson, Bulls end New York’s streak
NBA: Nate Robinson scored a season-high 35 points and the Chicago Bulls stopped another lengthy winning streak, rallying to beat New York 118-111 in overtime Thursday in Chicago and end the Knicks’ 13-game run.
Robinson came up big down the stretch, scoring eight points in the extra period.
Jimmy Butler added 22 points, Luol Deng scored 16, and the Bulls busted a long streak for the second time in about a two-week span, ending the Miami Heat’s 27-game run – the second-longest in NBA history – on March 27.
• Thunder win: Kevin Durant had 31 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists and Kevin Martin added 23 points off the bench as Oklahoma City pulled away in the third quarter and beat Golden State 116-97 at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.
Devils’ Volchenkov suspended for elbow
NHL: New Jersey Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov has been suspended for four games by the NHL for elbowing Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand in the head.
The league announced the suspension Thursday, roughly 12 hours after the second-period hit left Marchand wobbly in the Bruins’ 5-4 win at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. He did not return.
The suspension will cost Volchenkov $91,891.88, with the money going to the players’ emergency assistance fund.
• Jokinen scores twice, Penguins top Lightning: Jussi Jokinen scored two goals and added an assist, Pascal Dupuis had a goal and two assists, and the Eastern Conference-leading Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-3 in Tampa, Fla.
Chris Kunitz, Evgeni Malkin and Tanner Glass had the other Pittsburgh goals.
• Elliott gives Blues another shutout in win over Wild: Brian Elliott notched his third straight shutout, stretching his streak to 189 minutes, 31 seconds without a goal, and the St. Louis Blues won their sixth straight game by beating the Minnesota Wild 2-0 in St. Paul, Minn.
Seattle makes deal with Quinn official
NFL: Brady Quinn and the Seattle Seahawks have officially finalized their deal to make him the backup quarterback to starter Russell Wilson.
Quinn’s deal was finalized on Thursday, but terms of the contract were not available. Quinn and the Seahawks agreed to terms of the contract earlier this week. Quinn joins Josh Portis as the expected backups to Wilson. Quinn played last year for the Kansas City Chiefs, starting eight games.
• Lions sign Norwegian kicking prospect: Detroit signed kicker Havard Rugland, giving newly acquired kicker David Akers some competition or at least provide some depth at the position for practice.
Rugland was impressive in a trick-shot video called “Kickalicious”, which has more than 2.7 million views.
Cooper-Dyke returns as Southern Cal coach
Women’s basketball: Hall of Famer Cynthia Cooper-Dyke is returning to Southern California as the Trojans’ head women’s basketball coach.
USC hired Cooper-Dyke to replace Michael Cooper, who quit last month after four seasons.
Cooper-Dyke played on the Trojans’ NCAA championship teams in 1983 and 1984 before a lengthy professional career in Spain, Italy and the WNBA.
Sam Hurd pleads guilty to drug charge
Miscellany: Former NFL wide receiver Sam Hurd has pleaded guilty to a drug-possession charge that will likely result in a lengthy prison sentence.
The 27-year-old Hurd pleaded guilty in Dallas federal court. He was charged with procession of cocaine and marijuana with intent to distribute. His trial was scheduled to begin Monday.
Prosecutors allege Hurd was trying to obtain large amounts of cocaine and marijuana to build a drug-distribution network. Hurd was arrested in December 2011 after allegedly accepting cocaine from an undercover officer at a Chicago-area steakhouse. At the time, Hurd was a player for the Chicago Bears.
Hurd played five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before signing with the Bears in 2011. He was released after his arrest.
• Yale, Quinnipiac in hockey final: Andrew Miller scored 6:59 into overtime to lift Yale to a 3-2 victory over UMass Lowell in the NCAA men’s hockey semifinals in Pittsburgh.
The Bulldogs will play Quinnipiac in the final Saturday. Quinnipiac advanced with a 4-1 win over St. Cloud State, also in Pittsburgh.
• Hitmen down Rebels, win series: Zane Jones scored the winning goal and had an assist to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a 5-1 win over the Red Deer Rebels in Western Hockey League playoff action in Calgary.
Greg Chase also had a goal and an assist for the Hitmen, who will face the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Eastern Conference finals.
• Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang out for season: Former Olympic hurdles champion Liu Xiang will miss the 2013 season because of his slow recovery from an Achilles injury.
Jos Hermens, the Chinese hurdler’s manager, told the Associated Press the recovery from the injury that forced Liu to pull out of the London Olympics “is proceeding slowly, only very slowly.”
