Obituary: Elliott, Ronald Lee
Age 67
Ron was born February 27, 1946, to Willford Lee Elliott and Beverly A.G. Bohn in Seattle, Washington.
The oldest of three children, his family settled in Spokane, Washington, where Ron graduated from Rogers H.S.
in 1965.
Ron attended three years of college on a sports scholarship, but was drafted by the Army in 1967, serving his country in Vietnam, and receiving several honors including the National Defense Service Metal and the Army Commendation Metal.
Later, Ron returned to Spokane, where he owned and operated the popular bar, The Polar Inn.
He met his first Wife, “Flossie” Eileen Murphy, having two daughters, Richelle LeAnne and Krista Lee.
Ron eventually divorced and sold his bar, and started a career working as a Materials Clerk for the Burlington Northern Railroad.
It was at this point he became re-acquainted with his “lovely Bride,” Barbara Joyce Elliott, eventually adding a son Dominic Nicholas Lee to his family.
After retiring from the Railroad in 1994, Ron and Barbara resettled in Harrison, Idaho, achieving his dream of living on Lake Coeur d’Alene.
He became an active member of the community serving on the Harrison City Council for 12 years, where he became influential in annexing land for the City and improving the youth sports program.
He was Harrison Citizen of the Year in 2006, became the City Gymnasium remodel Project Manager, and presided as President of the Planning and Zoning Commission for a brief time.
He was also an active member of the Harrison Senior Center, St. Joe River Boat Club, and the Board of Directors for the Harrison Area Ball Field’s.
From an early age, Ron’s passion was sports, including baseball and basketball.
Later he loved to coach women’s softball, actively engage in his children’s sporting events, and assist in the Harrison youth baseball league.
He enjoyed vacationing with his family, walking his dogs with his lovely Bride, and spending time with his grandchildren.
If you were lucky enough to have spent time with Ron, you know you had a loyal friend for life.
Ron spent his life helping others.
No matter the task, or the person asking, Ron was there to help and usually tell you how to get it done right.
His family and friends will miss the smile through his beard, the wink of his blue eyes, and the kisses that let you know you were loved.
Ron is survived by his spouse, Barbara “The Princess,” his children, Shelly “Coach”, Krista “S. Bird”, and Dominic “Nickers,” his son-in-laws, Marc “Champ,” and Marc “2”, his grandchildren, Gabe and Ellen, brother, Rocky, sister, Bonnie, and nephew, Cody.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013, at 11:00 am at Heritage Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Erickson officiating.
Burial and Military Honors will follow at the Greenwood Memorial Terrace at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Heritage Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Hospice House of Spokane, www.hospiceofspokane.org , Humane Society, www.spokanehumanesociety.org, or the Harrison Gymnasium Fund.
The family invites memorial attendees and those unable to attend memorial services to attend the memorial wake, being held at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 6410 North Lidgerwood Street, beginning at 1 p.m.
