Police looking for attempted rapist in Coeur d’Alene

Coeur d’Alene authorities are looking for a man suspected of assaulting a teenager and trying to rape her Saturday morning, according to a Coeur d’Alene Police Department news release.

The 16-year-old girl told Coeur d’Alene Police officers she was going for a morning jog when a man followed her on foot along the 1800 block of North 15th Street around 5:30 a.m. and attacked her, the news release said.

She ran to a nearby home where the homeowners let her in and called police. She had minor injuries, police said.

Police used a K-9 unit and Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Air One helicopter to try to track the suspect but didn’t find him.

The victim described the man as white with red hair and a scruffy goatee, average height and weight and wearing a Carhartt Jacket. The man is possibly in his 20 to 30s.

Coeur d’Alene police spokeswoman Christie Wood said they’ve received some tips already but are still looking for anyone with information on this crime.
