Leaving UCLA’s Shabazz Muhammad is one-and-done. The Pac-12 co-freshman of the year on Tuesday announced he’s leaving to enter the NBA draft. He was the Bruins’ leading scorer with 17.9 points per game.

• Marquette junior guard Vander Blue says he will skip his final season of eligibility and submit his name for the NBA draft. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 9.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2 assists per game.

Hired New Florida International men’s basketball coach Anthony Evans invited everyone on his new team to the news conference he was being introduced at Tuesday, with one caveat. Those who had class at that time were barred from the event. FIU will likely have to skip all postseason play next year because of issues with the program’s Academic Progress Rate score.

Signed The San Antonio Spurs have signed veteran forward Tracy McGrady, adding depth and experience as the playoffs arrive. McGrady, 33, is a seven-time NBA All-Star. He most recently played for Qingdao of the Chinese Basketball League, averaging 25 points and 7.2 rebounds.

• The New York Knicks have signed guard-forward Quentin Richardson for the remainder of the season. The 6-foot-6 Richardson has not played in the NBA since the 2011-12 season with Orlando. He spent four seasons (2005-09) with the Knicks, averaging 9.7 points and 5.0 rebounds.

Announced The NFL will release its 2013 schedule Thursday night with a prime-time TV show. The first full weekend of games will be Sept. 8-9. For the second straight year, the NFL will have a full slate of Thursday night games.

Suspended San Jose Earthquakes forward Alan Gordon has been suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount for what Major League Soccer called “unacceptable and offensive language” toward an opponent after using an anti-gay slur.

Agreed The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to terms with goalie Jimmy Howard on a $31.8 million, six-year contract. Howard, 29, is 17-12-6 with a 2.31 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage this season.
