In brief: Event showcases local youth talent

 

SPOKANE – The 2013 Kids Got Talent show, hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Spokane, will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lincoln Center, 1316 N. Lincoln St.

The show features Spokane-area youth singing, dancing, playing instruments and conducting dramatic readings – among many other performances. Tickets are $10; $5 for children younger than 15.

Center fundraiser features comedy

SOUTH HILL – The Southside Senior Center is hosting a fundraiser at 5 p.m. Saturday. Local actor Tim Behrens, well-known for his monologues based on Pat McManus’ humorous novels, will emcee the event, which features lots of comedy and live and silent auctions.

The barbecue and auction will be at the center, 3151 E. 27th Ave. Tickets are $25; tables of eight may be reserved. Designated drivers will be provided on request.

Centennial Trail topic of meeting

NORTHEAST SPOKANE – The city of Spokane will hold an open house showing potential traffic solutions to the so-called Centennial Trail gap, where the Centennial Trail crosses East Mission Avenue, on April 24 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the assembly room at Northeast Community Center, 4001 N. Cook St.

The area has been studied with the goal of finding a way to separate the Centennial Trail from motorized traffic and improve pedestrian safety at the crossing.

COPS shop holding shred day

NORTHWEST SPOKANE – COPS Northwest will provide free shredding on April 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Garden meeting, cleanup scheduled

NORTHWEST SPOKANE – The Fairview and Hemlock Community Garden Association is having its spring meeting for new and returning gardeners at 6 p.m. today at the Transitional Living Center, 3128 N. Hemlock St.

The executive committee will be elected at this meeting.

The garden cleanup and bed allotment meeting is at 1 p.m. Saturday at the garden, which is on the corner of Hemlock and Fairview Avenue.

Returning and prospective gardeners will help clean up the beds and tidy up common areas of the community garden, and new beds may be constructed as needed.

Clothing bank hosting open house

East Central – Mission Community Outreach Center is having an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Community members are invited to stop by for refreshments and a tour of their facility.
