In brief: Klemm steps down as Spokane Chiefs assistant
Jon Klemm, who captained the Spokane Chiefs to their first Memorial Cup in 1991, resigned Wednesday after serving four seasons as the Western Hockey League team’s assistant coach.
Klemm will return to Dallas after getting married this summer. His four children live in Chicago.
“I will get more opportunities to see my kids and see my son play hockey,” Klemm said. “I haven’t seen him play in three years.”
Klemm, a former defenseman, was named to the franchise’s Top 25 Chiefs in 25 years during the anniversary season in 2009-10. He played 773 games in the NHL with Colorado, Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles.
“It has been a pleasure to work with Jon, both as a player and now as a coach,” Chiefs general manager Tim Speltz said. “He has been fantastic for our organization.”
“I’m sad to see Jon go,” Chiefs coach Don Nachbaur said. “I want to personally thank him for all the hard work with our team.”
The search for a replacement will begin immediately.
Winfield deal made official
NFL: Antoine Winfield is officially a member of the Seattle Seahawks after the team formally announced a one-year deal with the former All-Pro cornerback.
Winfield joins one of the most talented defensive backfields in the NFL, likely as an extra cornerback to play in the slot.

Kings decision won’t come soon
NBA: Commissioner David Stern said a decision on the future home of the Sacramento Kings franchise is still at least two weeks away.
A Seattle group led by hedge-fund manager Chris Hansen has a deal to purchase 65 percent of the franchise from the Maloof family. Sacramento has put together a group to make a backup offer.
