One injured in West Central drive-by shooting

One man was shot in the leg Wednesday night after a reported drive-by shooting in the 2200 block of West Broadway Avenue. Spokane police were called to the area just before 8:30 p.m. for reports of about five gunshots fired and people running through alleys, according to a release. A witness provided a description of a vehicle involved and police located it speeding north on Post Street, the release said. After fleeing from police, the vehicle failed to make a left turn from West Queen Avenue to North Stevens Street and slid into a yard, striking a tree. Two people immediately fled from the vehicle. Police tracked the driver after a foot pursuit and identified him as 32-year-old Ricky L. Leon, the release said. While police were tracking Leon, a man arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. “It was determined that the victim at the hospital and the drive-by shooting were related,” the release said. Leon was booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault.
