Obituary: Greco, Mary

Age 96

GRECO, Mary Mary Greco, born February 20, 1917 in Walla Walla, WA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 15, 2013 with both of her sons by her side.

Mary was the second of seven children born to Dominick and Conchetta Loiacono.

She was preceded in passing by Ernest, her beloved husband of 62 years, her parents and five of her siblings.

Mary is survived by her sons Ernest D. Greco and Robert N. Greco (Denise) of Spokane, WA.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Brenda Miller (Chris) of La Selva Beach, CA; Laurie Matthews (Robert) of Seattle, WA; Jennifer Greco (Barrie) of Normandy, France; Tiffany Greco of Seattle, WA; Michelle Brunner (John) of Durham, NC; Jordan Greco of Seattle, WA; and Gabriella Greco of Seattle, WA.

She is survived by her sister Eleanor Landoni of Walla Walla, WA.

She was also blessed to have eight great-grandchildren; Jeremy Mace (Danielle), Morgan Miller, Maxx Miller, Macie Miller, Nick Matthews, Millie Matthews, Gianna Brunner, and Isabela Brunner.

She also has several nieces and nephews.

Mary grew up on a small farm in Walla Walla, WA helping her parents produce vegetables for various farmers markets.

She graduated from St. Vincent’s Academy and after graduating, worked as an assistant to a physician.

She married Ernie, the love of her life, and while raising their sons, she worked full time in the family tailoring and dry cleaning business.

Mary learned how to cook from her mother and was an excellent cook.

Her southern Italian meals were always the delight of family gatherings and she passed her cooking knowledge on to her children, grandchildren, and even some of her great-grandchildren.

Some of her biggest smiles came in the kitchen and at the dinner table.

Mary loved to travel and took many trips with her husband and family.

She also loved sports, especially if it had anything to do with Notre Dame football.

She loved to read and pray, sometimes spending hours, daily, praying and reading Catholic articles and books.

Mary was an avid gardener and would plant and tend to a yard full of plants and flowers each summer.

She also made over one hundred beautiful Christmas stockings for her family, relatives and friends.

At times, it seemed her energy was without limit.

After Mary and her husband moved to Spokane from Walla Walla, they became members of St. Thomas More Parish and enjoyed attending Mass and participating in Parish activities.

She truly loved being a Catholic and practiced her faith by living it each day.

She was a kind and caring person that always saw the best in people.

A Rosary will be said at 10:15 am on Saturday, April 20 at St. Augustine Church, 428 W. 19th Ave., Spokane, WA.

The Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 20 at St. Augustine Church.
