Obituary: Hoffman, Selma A. “Sally”

HOFFMAN, Selma A.

“Sally” A longtime resident of Spangle, Sally Hoffman passed peacefully on February 14, 2013 at age 92 in Burlington, WA where she had resided since 2004.

She was born April 17, 1920 on the family farm at Cameron, ID to Carl and Anna Wegner.

She attended Cameron Grade School and graduated with Kendrick High School Class of 1936 at age 16.

In 1943 Sally married Delbert Hoffman.

They lived in Bellevue and Seattle while Del was a welder in the shipyards.

By 1946 they had put down roots in Spangle, where Del owned and operated Del’s Repair Shop for almost 50 years.

He welded and forged his way into the heart of the community while Sally excelled as a homemaker, wife and mother to their two daughters.

With Del’s help they planted lots of flowers, berries and a big garden to eat fresh and fill the cellar for winter.

Lots of homemade dill pickles, sauerkraut, jams and jellies reflected her German heritage and a simple life well lived.

She had a sense of humor to match Del’s hearty laugh and a faith in God they nourished as members of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairfield, WA for 49 years.

Sally is survived by two daughters, Dianne Ostheller and husband Tom of Mt.

Vernon and Coni Schutten of Seattle; two grandchildren Monica Blaine and husband Kelly of Mt.

Vernon and Mark Ostheller of Everett; two great-grandchildren Emily and Keegan Blaine; her brother Edward Wegner and wife Charmaine of The Dalles, OR, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Her sister “Mickey” (Lenard) Hansen preceded her in death in 2012 as well as Delbert, her devoted husband of 56 years in 1999.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 17, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in Pullman City Cemetery.

The family suggests remembrances to a charity of your choice in her name or to Zion Lutheran Church, Fairfield, WA.
