Bulldogs 22nd in three polls

Sitting atop the West Coast Conference standings, the Gonzaga University baseball team found itself ranked No. 22 in three national polls Monday.

Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, Perfect Game and Baseball America all have the Bulldogs (26-11-1, 13-5 WCC) 22nd-ranked in their weekly poll.

This is the first appearance this season for the Zags in Perfect Game’s College Top 25 and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30. Gonzaga was ranked No. 24 by Baseball America last week.

The Bulldogs have taken the WCC by storm this season. GU has won three consecutive WCC series and is 9-1 in its last 10 WCC games.

Gonzaga plays host to Washington today at 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 3 p.m. BYU comes to town Thursday to open a three-game WCC series.

Wear yellow to honor Sheridan

A memorial service for longtime former Shadle Park coach Linda Sheridan will be held Monday, April 29 at 4 p.m. in the Shadle Park High School gym, 4327 N. Ash.

A wake will follow at The Lincoln Center, 1316 N. Lincoln St.

Services are open to the public. Former athletes, managers and coaches are encouraged to wear yellow symbolizing the impact Sheridan made on the local sports community.

Sheridan, who coached girls basketball and volleyball for more than 20 years at Shadle Park, died Saturday. She was 65.

Whitworth golf collects honors

After winning the Northwest Conference men’s golf championship on Sunday, the honors rolled in for the Whitworth Pirates.

Warren Friedrichs was named NWC Coach of the Year and Lyle Rudnicki and Jesse Salzwedel were selected first-team all-conference.

Oliver Rudnicki, Stephen Plopper and Joey DeGroff were named to the second all-conference team.

Whitworth has qualified for the NCAA Division III national championships May 14-17 in Destin, Fla.
